"Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives."

Where are you originally from?
I was born in Connecticut, but I have lived all over the country, and most recently in the Seattle, Washington area where I worked for King County.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in local government?
Politics and government were always a fascination for me, and as a teenager, my pleasure reading would consist of books about notable political figures. The University of Florida had just gotten the public administration program off the ground when I was a senior in college and considering law school. I decided to pursue the duel law/public administration program offered which required that the first year be spent in public administration classes. After that, I was hooked on this field and never made it to law school.

What do you like most about your job?
What I like best about the job is why I went into the field in the first place. You are helping to make a difference in people's lives and in the community, and there is tons of variety in what we do each day.

What areas of local government interest you the most?
The areas that interest me most in local government are the internal business functions (HR, Finance, Public Information, Technology, etc.) and citizen outreach/neighborhood programs.

As a local government professional, what accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am most proud of the relationships that I have developed and carried with me in each of the states I have worked in. If I were to list the projects that I consider significant accomplishments, they would all share the common denominator of being part of a great team that got the work done.

What are your hobbies?
My reading has taken a backseat to my hobby, now that I no longer have a long bus ride to work. When I'm not spending my free time doing something with my husband, I am knitting. I have been involved in some aspect of fiber arts for most of my adult life and knitting has a very meditative state to it that helps me relax.
