Town of Queen Creek
Town Manager

Where are you originally from?
Canton, Ohio.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in local government?
I became quite interested in how cities were built and how they functioned. I was particularly interested in what role they played in helping the average citizen to the large corporate member of the community. I wanted to play some positive role in the various collision of interests.

What do you like most about your job?
The diversity of issues, challenges and opportunities are different from one day to the next. Each day is a different day and these dynamic characteristics keep me coming back. Making progress, tackling these challenges with my outstanding team, makes me feel like we are making a difference.

What areas of local government interest you the most?
I am not sure if there is one area that is more interesting than another - each has its own mission and sense of purpose representing varying degrees of interest at different times. However, I have come to realize quickly, that I need to consciously spend more time on those areas where I know my interest is not at the level it should be in order to remain an effective resource.

As a local government professional, what accomplishment are you most proud of?
While in Queen Creek, I have been quite fortunate to fulfill a role for a place that essentially is building a brand new community from scratch, from virtually a blank slate. Now, we are seeing a lot of the early planning, development and infrastructure time and investment come to fruition and implementing the early vision for the community - in some ways, like watching a child grow up. As part of this experience, one of the more significant accomplishments has been assisting in creating our first municipal fire department. Fortunately, with the help of extraordinary municipal partners, (Gilbert and Mesa) we were able to transition to this new service within a few short months bringing full-service Fire/EMS to the community.

What was the last book you read?
Built to Last by Jim Collins and Jerry Porras. Although originally published in mid 1990's it makes for an interesting read during these economic times, particularly as it relates to the deeper purpose of sustaining the mission of your organization.
