ACMA Honors Susan Thorpe with 2011 Connolly Award
This year's Catherine F. Connolly award was presented to Susan Thorpe, Deputy City Manager for the City of Peoria. The Catherine F. Connolly Outstanding City/County Manager Award, recognizes an outstanding assistant city or county manager who has demonstrated exemplary service to their organization, to the community, to local government and to ACMA. The namesake of the award, Catherine F. Connolly, was the Executive Director of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns for seven years and served 20+ years as the Deputy Director.

Susan began her local government career in 1981 as an administrative intern for the City of Denton, Texas, before becoming a management intern for the City of Odessa, Texas. In Odessa, she was promoted to Administrative Assistant to the City Manager and then Budget and Research Manager before assuming her first Assistant City Manager job for the City of Midland, Texas. She has subsequently served as deputy or assistant city manager for the cities of Tracy, California, and Peoria, Arizona, with stints as the city manager of Bedford, Texas and Rowlett, Texas in between. In total she has nearly 30 years of experience serving communities across the Southwest.

Beyond her management experience, Susan has also been a major player in many of ICMA's efforts. She has served on the annual conference evaluation and planning committees a total of six times and also on the assistants steering committee, the first-time administrators task force, and the award evaluation panel.

Susan is currently contributing her talent and dedication to the preparations for the 2012 ICMA Conference, which will be held in Phoenix, by taking a leadership role on host committee efforts.
