Board Member Article: ACMA Membership
Mike Ortega, ACMA Board Member, County Administrator, Cochise County

Your involvement and engagement in ACMA is needed. As the Arizona City/County Management Association (ACMA) celebrates its 60th anniversary, we need your involvement now more than ever. ACMA was established to be an advocate for the public management profession and its membership yet its strength comes from the membership and their commitment to furthering the profession through the development of future leaders.

The ACMA Board recently met over two days to discuss the direction and goals for the organization. One strategic initiative is member communication and involvement. Although the Board will work to communicate with you on what we are doing, it will be your feedback and input that will help us to make ACMA even better. Participation in ACMA events, particularly the semi-annual conferences, is important and I would encourage you to reach out to board members to see how we can best utilize your expertise and experience for the benefit of all members.

Those of us involved in public management learned about the role we play in cities, towns or counties either through formal education, on the job training, or through a mentor. Some of us learned from all three. ACMA provides the environment for you to share this expertise with others, but it also is an opportunity for you to learn as well.

Membership in ACMA brings with it many advantages including access to League support staff, scholarships, the newsletter, networking and access to the semi-annual conferences. But to some, a more important aspect of membership is the forum it provides to other professionals in the field that are facing situations similar to yours.

If you have not already done so, please renew your membership as soon as possible. As with so many organizations, dues are an integral part in maintaining a quality of programs. Please do your part by keeping your membership current.

For additional information on renewing your membership, please contact Amy Price at aprice@azleague.org or 602-258-5786.
