ACMA Honors Stephanie Smith with 2016 Rachel Hut Bremen Associate's Award for Excellence
City of Flagstaff Assistant to the City Manager Stephanie Smith was awarded with the Rachel Hut Bremen Associate's Award for Excellence in Leadership.

Smith has been with the City of Flagstaff since 2006, where she has worked as the city's sustainability specialist and assistant to the city manager.

Smith was the support staff to a multi-jurisdictional planning group consisting of the City of Flagstaff, Coconino County, Flagstaff Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Northern Arizona Intergovernmental Public Transportation. Her coordination with city council and community outreach helped advance the work necessary to bring this issue to the ballot.

Smith has also successfully initiated a relationship between NAU's Master of Public Administration program and the City of Flagstaff, which included outreach on educational opportunities available for professional managers. NAU will use this pilot with the city and extend its outreach to other public employers in the northern Arizona region.

As a member of ACMA, Smith has served on both the ACMA Conference Planning and Ethics Committees. She has also presented at ACMA Conferences and for the Alliance for Innovation Transforming Local Government Conference.

The Rachel Hut Bremen Associate's Award for Excellence in Leadership recognizes associate ACMA members who contribute to the local government profession. The award was named this year for Rachel Hut Bremen, who served on the ACMA Board of Directors as an Associate Representative for two terms and volunteered on several committees including the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) Host Committee when the conference was held in Phoenix in 2012. She worked for the City of Glendale as a senior management assistant. In May 2015, Rachel passed away from a two-and-a-half year battle with leukemia.
