ACMA Honors Andrews Scholarship Recipient
ACMA awards scholarships each year to Arizona graduate students. Earlier this year, the ACMA Board of Directors approved to modify the ACMA scholarships to open them up to undergraduate students working towards their Master of Public Administration degree. The committee awarded one exceptional student the Marvin Andrews Internship and scholarship. This scholarship honors Marvin Andrews, a former Phoenix City Manager and ACMA Life Member.

The Marvin A. Andrews Scholarship is awarded to a traditional full-time student who exhibits a strong interest in pursuing a career in local government. ACMA provides matching funds to a city or town with a population of less than 50,000 or a county under 200,000, in order to host the Andrews Scholar as an intern.

The 2017 Andrews Scholar is Thomas Prior. Thomas is currently a junior in the Barrett Honors College pursuing a Bachelor's degree in public administration with a minor in business. Thomas aspires to be a city manager and already has spent considerable time exploring that career track. He was a Youth Council Liaison for the City of Peoria while still in high school and also served as Vice Chair of the Peoria Youth Advisory Board. He recently interned for the Arizona Trail Association and volunteered for the Relay for Life. In addition, he was a City of Peoria Young Ambassador and visited Northern Ireland as part of the Sister Cities program. Thomas has plans to pursue a master's degree in public administration.
